Nathaniel J.R. Smith

Nathaniel Smith graduated from Willamette University in 1994 with a B.A. in French and Business Economics. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law in 1998. While at Seattle University School of Law, he was a Lead Article Editor for the law review.

Nathaniel clerked for Judge J. Robin Hunt of the Division II Court of Appeals for a year following law school, then joined a Seattle law firm in 1999. He was actively involved in products liability, professional liability, and premises liability defense, as well as preparing insurance coverage opinions and representing insurers in coverage and bad faith litigation. He is admitted to practice in Washington and California, and is also admitted to practice in the Western District of Washington, Northern District of California, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Nathaniel has been named a “Rising Star” by Washington Law & Politics. He is the chapter author of the Washington Motor Vehicle Accident Insurance Deskbook, the revised edition that will be released later this year. He also co-authored a chapter of the Washington Motor Vehicle Accident Deskbook.

Since joining Soha & Lang, Nathaniel has continued to focus on insurance coverage opinions and litigation, bad faith litigation, and professional liability defense. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and reading.
